Avengers Assemble Art Show at Gallery 1988
I've been really excited about posting this one. Last night Gallery 1988 had an early preview of their Avengers Assemble art show, and above you can see my contribution. I know the preview is pretty small so be sure to click it for a larger view!
I consider this show another one of those crazy art milestones that involves something I never imagined I would be a part of. For starters, I was one of the artists hand-picked by the filmmakers to create work for the show; how awesome is that? And since it's an official promotional event for the movie I was given permission by Disney and Marvel and to legally use their characters, as well as permission from various stars of the movie like Scarlett Johansson and Sam Jackson to use their likenesses. I mean as far as personal artwork there's nothing stopping anyone from doing that anyway, but you just don't expect to get an email saying that Disney wants you to do it and is giving you permission!
Here's a photo of Joss Whedon and Clark Gregg from the VIP cocktail event last night. I was thrilled to be invited to go, but it ended up being pretty late notice for somebody like me who would need to make it all the way to the other coast. I wrestled most of the day with buying an expensive last minute plane ticket, but ultimately I decided my travel money would best be saved for some other shows I'm already planning on attending this summer.
These cupcakes cracked me up because I included Marvel cupcakes in my drawing, and lo and behold they were actually there!
I grabbed these photos from the writeup over at /Flim, so thanks to Peter Sciretta! The proper reception is this evening, so you should check it out if you're in the LA area.
Update: I just learned that my prints have already sold out! I'm a little bummed that it happened before the reception this evening because I always want everybody to have a shot at buying them, but I am very thankful to everybody who bought one!

That might be the coolest thing ever. Thanks for showing that.
ReplyDeleteI was one of the lucky folks that got your print! Thanks so much! It was my favorite piece of the show. And even my girlfriend loves it! We can't wait to frame it! Would have loved to have gotten the 1/30 print that is doodled on. :)
